So hockey novels are a thing! I wish they’d take off here, then perhaps there’d be more interest from the public in the Winter Olympics and we’d get it on our TV channels! But no — since the deal between Multichoice and the French we can’t have the Winter Olympics because — (cue French accent) — No Africans they don’t watch winter sports. Do they even know what snow is? — Non, les Africains ne regardent pas les sports d'hiver. Savent-ils seulement ce qu'est la neige ?
Christine, you assume I speak French. Non. I do not. I have to confess I didn't watch the winter olympics, even though I could have. I just saw some clips – people flying through the air doing somersaults at altitude and then landing on their skis ... a back flip on ice followed by a landing on a single skate. Terrifying stuff. Electrifying. Anyone with a pulse would be interested in the event finals, at least. (If money is the issue, why can't some countries just buy the finals?) On a side note, did you know that the winter olympic uniforms are a big fashion deal? Ralph Lauren often dresses Team USA.
No Daisy, I didn’t assume you speak French (that’s why I put the English translation first). I was faking that I speak it! Google translate is such a helpful tool!
Backstory is that DSTV have been bought by Chantal Plus, a French company who are cutting much of our content.
Ralph Lauren nogal? Wow! Now that’s something to be in the US team for.
Really enjoyed a recent Women's Ice Hockey game (a first for me, it was quick and slick, not as rough as the men's it seems) - thanks for alerting us to this series; it is good to explore these 'new' things so foreign to life back home in SA.
Kim, did you happen to see that clip of Connor Storrie on SNL with the gold medal winning mens and womens ice hockey teams? The US Womens team wins all the time but the mens team hadn't won since 1980. I think the Heated Rivalry hype pushed them over the line!
