As an American, I did not go to a "prom high school" and neither did my kids. But your description of it was so spot on it made me laugh. We take them for granted because they exist, but I'll from now be picturing them like movie sets!
Love it! Did 1 year of high school as a Dutch exchange student in Seattle in 1983. Felt just like you described, arriving on the set of a movie. Still don’t know how the students managed to stay alive on the greasy cafeteria food. Felt so old compared to my classmates who had no idea what was going on in the world. Had to regularly answer questions like ‘do you live in a tree?’ or ‘do you know what a tv is?’….. Great experience though.
